9:15am The Normalization of Breastfeeding in Today's Society
Join Karen Laidlaw, Family Community Support Worker with Better Beginnings and the Facilitator of the Breastfeeding Families Peer Support with Kingston Community Health Centres. Gleaning the experience of families to share how they manage breastfeeding and keeping it natural and normal. We aim to develop some positive strategies for dealing with the adversity and attitudes that the breastfeeding mother and child may encounter.
10:15am First foods: Avoiding Allergies and Picky Eating
Join Dr. Angela Hunt, ND at Kingston Integrated Health. Introducing foods for the first time to your child can be an exciting but also overwhelming time. The recommendations on when foods should be introduced has changed and these could influence the chance of food allergies developing. The first year of food introduction is key to prevent allergies, set the foundation for healthy digestion and avoid picky eating. Come learn how to get your little one on the right track with their nutrition.
10:15am Kingston Frontenac Library Rhythm and Rhyme
Through rhythm, rhyme and movement, children three and under will naturally develop language and increase their ability to hear the smaller sounds in words. Experience hands-on play with bells, rhythm sticks, scarves, shakers and more.
10:30am Free guided hike with Hike It Baby
Join Hike it Baby Kingston for a waterfront stroll & snack that ends at the 2nd annual Bump, Baby & Beyond event! We will be meeting at the bike racks out front of the Tett Centre at 10:30am and then we will head west along King St. to the waterfront pathway. We’ll be on the sidewalk for a bit before we will walk some of the well-paved and beautiful waterfront pathway towards Lake Ontario Park for about 2km (or 30 minutes), then we will turn around and head back the way we came (about 4km or an hour in total). We will end at the Juniper Cafe around noon for a snack if you’re interested, and then you are welcome to join in on the festivities at this year’s Bump, Baby & Beyond event. The event is FREE and there are vendors, workshops, seminars, kid-friendly activities, and more! Stop by the Hike it Baby booth to enter our Onya Baby giveaway and buy a Hike it Baby trail book! The event is on from 9am until 2pm. Strollers, carriers, walking kiddos, other family members and friends are welcome to join (dogs are not). We stop for feedings, diaper changing, and to explore something interesting. We’ll depart 15 minutes after the start time to allow for anyone running behind to join us. 12:15pm Babywearing 101
Join Stefani Occhipinti, a local Babywearing Educator and member of The Kingston and Area Babywearing Group, for an interactive demonstration of different styles of baby carriers along with important safety importation for wearing your baby and young child
12:15pm Self-care and "Feeling Like Yourself" Again For Moms At All Stages
Join Dr. Jillian Murphy, BScKin, ND and Pam Fountas, Life Coach. Through a combination of insightful discussion and hands-on exercises, Pam & Jill will guide and inspire you toward authentic, flexible health, peace with food and your body, and a new outlook on what it means to put yourself first.
